His most famous book is Fahrenheit 451. Bradbury is credited with writing 27 novels and over 600 short stories. More than eight million copies of his works, published in over 36 languages, have been sold around the world. The New York Times stated that Bradbury was "the writer most responsible for bringing modern science fiction into the literary mainstream." Ray Bradbury has won numerous awards over his lifetime. The most notable award he has won was the National Medal of Arts in 2004 presented by President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. Unfortunately, Ray Bradbury died on June 5, 2012 at the age of 91.
