The story in Whale Talk takes place in Spokane, Washington during present day. Most of the story occurs in Cutter High School in Spokane since the main characters attend Cutter High School. Some of the story takes place in other schools in the Spokane area where the swim team of Cutter High School competes at swim tournaments. Also, some of the story also occurs in All Night Fitness where the swim team of Cutter High School practices.
The setting of Whale Talk is similar to where I live. The city where I live also has lots of swimming competitions between different school districts. Unlike Cutter High School, my high school has a large swimming pool where as Cutter High School has no swimming pool.
